Welcome to Carriers of the Cross GM&EA. Carriers of the Cross is a California non-profit religious corporation. We received our corporation papers in 1991 in order to provide tax exempt status to the supporters of the ministry.

Brother James intends to carry the cross of Jesus Christ through every state of the United States and in every foreign country to which the Holy Spirit directs. The cross, being seen by many, will convict, will cause questions, will cause controversy, will stir forgotten commitments, and will cause God-ward thoughts to begin in the observers. The goals of this ministry are: To draw the attention of people to the person of Jesus Christ; and to bring people to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ; and to exhort believers to a deeper, fuller, more enriching walk with Him, and to bring the Person of the Holy Spirit to a reality in the lives of believers. These goals will be met by one-on-one discussions at the cross; at formal and impromptu gatherings along the routes on which the cross is carried; by holding rallies in city, county or state parks; meetings in churches; meetings in public auditoriums, and meetings under the evangelistic tent.

A CALL TO MEN

Brother James has an ancillary ministry under the umbrella of Carriers of the Cross which is "A Call To Men." This ministry is geared toward and directed to the needs of men. The programs are geared to small groups as well as gatherings of larger size. The most productive seem to be those small groups in which men gather early in an evening in a private home and in an informal style we discuss selected topics of particular interest to men. His favorite one is entitled "Let your Spirit Soar." This one is done with graphics, demonstration and of course participation. This meeting can continue with a sleep-over and in the morning (usually a Friday night and a Saturday morning) we wrap-up with further discussions of what we learned and how we will employ that information in our daily lives. We generally disband around midday with the men going away from the site with a new awareness of themselves as men and how, with the help of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, they can live successful, overcoming lives as followers of Jesus Christ.

Evangelist and Teacher James E. Whalen is a former police officer and has been involved in law enforcement for 37 years. He has ministered to people in about fifteen denominations. Brother James ministers to the needs of the people in the meeting to which he has been called. He carries the cross across states, through towns and in conjunction will hold meetings when invited. He has carried the cross across Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona and Montana. He has carried the cross in South Florida just after hurricane Andrew, in South Central Los Angeles just after the riots, in Littleton, Co at Columbine High School just after the shootings, in numerous town walks, Good Friday cross carries, various "March for Jesus" parades, to the tops of mountains and the lowness of valley floors. He has ministered in Africa in the open during the heat of the day and in the rain, in city parks, at a teachers college in Kenya and in houses of worship, he is praying to return there again. The Next Journey

Route 666 Cross Carry (The Devil's Highway) is to be undertaken by Brother James the first two weeks of April, 2003. This route starts in SE Utah, at Monticello, continues Southeast and then South into Colorado and on into Western New Mexico where it continues on to Gallup, New Mexico where it ends. This highway and the communities along it's path experience a lot of highway pedestrian deaths, criminal activities and other troubles. There is a very high rate of alcoholism amongst the people frequenting the area. Brother James believes the prince of the powers of darkness is heavily involved in the activities of the people of the area. By carrying the Cross of Jesus along Route 666, along with much prayer support, the powers of darkness can be broken. He prays that the people of the area will support this effort in prayer and will continue to fight the good fight of faith after the Cross Carry has been completed. Beginning now, this ministry is asking for your prayer support and for your financial support in this effort. As always, those people who choose to become involved in any way will share in the eternal rewards realized from this Cross Carry.
